Leap Second Committee

Members: Five members appointed by President, serve at the President's pleasure.

Term: Ad-hoc.

Chair: Appointed by President.

Charge: This ad-hoc committee was formed to consider the proposed increase in the maximum time difference between UT1 (based on Earth rotation) and UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) from less than a second to as much as an hour, and to make a recommendation to the AAS Council at its meeting in January 2007. The Committee (leapsecond@aas.org) will accept member input through 15 September 2006.
