Job Description:
The Laboratory of Astrophysics of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, announces the opening of a 5-year postdoctoral research position related to the ESA EUCLID satellite.The successful candidate will work on the problem of accurate weak lensing measurement, which implies a strong interest of the candidate not only in cosmology, but also in image processing and mathematical/statistical techniques. She/he will also work on new algorithms to carry out automated whole-sky searches for strong lenses. The current EPFL group working on EUCLID is multidisciplinary and includes 2 staff members, 1 postdoc and 2 PhD students. The selected candidate will have access to the largest supercomputer in Switzerland.
The appointment is for 5 years. Stipends depend on the year of Ph.D. thesis and will be in the range CHF 78,000 - 90,000 (US$70,000 - 80,000). Additional funds are available for travels to conferences and relocation expenses.
The position is available as of fall 2010.
