Job Description:
The University of Iowa is searching for a postdoctoral scholar to work on the development of the Gravity and Extreme Magnetism Small (GEMS), a small explorer mission recently selected for flight by NASA, in collaboration with Prof. Philip Kaaret. The work will include development of a polarized X-ray calibration facility, science planning for the GEMS mission, and data analysis from currently orbiting X-ray observatories. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy. Experience in detectors for ionizing radiation and/or astrophysical data analysis is preferred. US citizenship or green-card status is required. The appointment will be made at the postdoctoral research scholar or research scientist level, depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
