Job Description:
The "Seamless Astronomy" project seeks a postdoctoral fellow with interests in using literature as a means of data discovery and linking. Experience in the creation of tools for literature-based data linking, in addition to research interests around the use of such tools is particularly sought. Candidates with a familiarity with Astronomy are preferred, but expertise in the "information science" associated with literature-data interconnections is more critical. The selected postdoc will collaborate closely with the VAO and ADS teams at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, as well as with other research units around Harvard University interested in data-literature connections. This position is most suitable for a recent Information Science Ph.D. with experience in semantic computing, scientific collaboration networks, scientific data practices, and web-based data mining and analysis.Appointments are for 1 year, with renewal for a second and third year likely, contingent upon satisfactory progress and funding. The starting date, depending on applicant's availability, will be between 8/15/10 and 10/1/10. Harvard University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer where all qualified applicants receive consideration for employment without regard to race, creed, color, sex or national origin.
Included Benefits:
The salary is competitive, and health benefits and relocation allowance are provided.
