Job Description:
Regular, F/T, Limited Term (approx 3 yrs in duration w/ possibility of extension) position w/ the Laser Guide Star Adaptive Optics Project, the Subaru Telescope, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan in Hilo, Hawaii. Salary: $3,620/Mo. Duties: Participate in the development of Subaru laser guide star adaptive optics system. In charge of optical design/fabrication or developing a diagnostics system for the adaptive optics system. Pursuit of independent science research related adaptive optics is expected. Requires: Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or related field. 3+ yrs exper in astronomy or physics. Knowl of adaptive optics. Ability to undertake independent program in astronomy or physics research. Good written & oral communication skills. Possess valid driver’s license & operate 4-wheel drive vehicles. Must pass a high altitude physical exam & work at high altitude of 14,000 ft.
