Research Physical Scientist Position in
Optical and Infrared Emissions and Propagation


Air Force Research Laboratory
Space Vehicles Directorate
Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico


The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) seeks a candidate for a potential full-time permanent position in basic and applied research in detection, modeling, simulation, and analysis of infrared and optical emissions and propagation from Earth to space. A qualified applicant will have a MS or PhD in physics, astronomy, geophysics, or a related physical sciences field and possess expertise in electromagnetic theory, optics and optical sensor design, digital signal processing, and digital imagery. Candidates will support laboratory experiments, field campaigns, and satellite experiments in association with current research at AFRL. The ideal applicant should have expertise in leading research teams and coordinating research programs with sponsors and customers. The successful candidate will focus on transitioning an existing research program from Hanscom Air Force Base near Boston, Massachusetts to Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. The potential research position will be located at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM but the successful candidate must be willing to spend extended periods of time at Hanscom Air Force Base with the program’s current staff. This potential position will be funded at the DR-III level ($82,000-$116,000) and will only be open to US citizens.
