Job Description:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy (www.phys.au.dk) invites applications for a permanent position in Astrophysics at the Associate Professor level. The position is open from 1. October 2010.

The Department wishes to strengthen its activities in observational stellar astrophysics and seeks a candidate with a track record of excellent and independent research. The candidate is expected to develop a strong research programme at the forefront of this field of research.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy plays a leading role in the asteroseismic use of data from the NASA Kepler mission and in the ground-based SONG network for asteroseismic investigations and studies of extra-solar planetary systems. The candidate will in addition have access to ESO’s observational facilities, the Nordic Optical Telescope, and other facilities through our international collaborations, as well as the possibility of participation in ESA’s astrophysics missions.

An important part of the position is participation in the teaching activities in astrophysics, including organization of observing trips for students. The candidate should participate in fundraising for science operations and contribute to the Department’s visibility through public outreach activities. The candidate must be committed to teaching at all levels in the university curriculum and present documented teaching experience, including supervision of MSc and PhD students.
