Job Description:
The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) is a Centre funded by the State Government of Western Australia and established as a joint venture between Curtin University of Technology and The University of Western Australia (UWA). The Centre, along with CSIRO, will play a key role in Australia’s participation in the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA) effort.The Super Science Fellowship scheme is an Australian government initiative to attract outstanding Australian and international early-career scientists in key areas of science. A AUD$40,000 per year research budget will be made available. ICRAR is looking for a highly motivated Super Science Fellow to engage in research for the following position:
SUPER SCIENCE FELLOW-WALLABY (REF: 3120)
• 3 year appointment
• Hosted by CSIRO for one of the three years
• Salary: Level A Step 8 AUD$72,537 p.a.
The Super Science Fellow will engage in research related to the Widefield ASKAP L-Band Legacy All-sky Blind survey (Wallaby) and synergistic optical and radio surveys. The Fellow will participate in the Wallaby survey design, development of science work packages and scientific commissioning and evaluation of the BETA early science array for Wallaby.
Essential criteria are a PhD in astronomy, preferably optical spectroscopy or radio astronomy and a track record of excellence in research.
The Super Science Fellow will be based at the ICRAR headquarters at the beautiful Matilda Bay campus of The University of Western Australia (UWA). Perth was ranked 5th in the Economist's 2009 list of the world's most liveable cities and offers an excellent ocean-side lifestyle.
