Job Description:
The Spitzer Science Center at Caltech invites applications for one or two Postdoctoral Research Fellows to participate in the analysis and publication of data derived from an approved Spitzer "Exploration Science" large program to measure the photometric variability of YSOs in the IRAC 3.6 and 4.5 micron bands for timescales from hours to years. The Spitzer IRAC data will be combined with existing and newly acquired ground-based photometry and other relevant data (e.g. rotational velocities and x-ray fluxes) in order to address questions related to PMS angular momentum evolution, accretion and accretion variability in the youngest PMS stars, and the structure of the inner disks of YSOs. The applicant will work directly with the Caltech team involved in the Spitzer GO program (Stauffer, Rebull, Hillenbrand, Carpenter, and others), as well as team members scattered around the globe. The applicant will be expected to both help in the analysis of the IRAC data and to lead efforts to obtain and analyze contemporaneous optical and near-IR photometry.Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. degree in astronomy or physics. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the analysis of IRAC photometry, and with a background and interest in the general topic of star formation and PMS stellar evolution. Previous experience with IRAF and MOPEX is desirable, as is experience with the UNIX or Linux operating systems. Applicants should send a resume and the names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers of three professional references. Deadline for the applications is 1 April 2009. The position, currently funded for 2 years, may be supplemented by participation in other on-going IPAC/SSC/JPL projects. Applicants must be able to start their employment no later than late August or early September 2009.
Caltech is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women, Minorities, Veterans, and Disabled Persons are encouraged to apply.
