Job Description:
The University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in astronomy/astrophysics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy to begin August 16, 2009. We are especially interested in extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology, but also encourage applications from persons working in planetary, stellar, or galactic astrophysics.The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate astronomy courses, as well as establish an internationally competitive research program involving students in research. A PhD in astronomy/astrophysics with postdoctoral experience is required. The applicant should have a demonstrated research record. A record in attracting funding will be beneficial. This position is part of an effort to grow the astronomy/astrophysics research in the department. Further information about the department may be found at http://www.physics.sc.edu.
