Job Description:

The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a Townes Postdoctoral Fellowship in EXPERIMENTAL ASTROPHYSICS AND SPACE PHYSICS. This fellowship is designed to allow recent Ph.D. recipients the opportunity to pursue independent research projects, in part by being granted Principal Investigator status at UC Berkeley for the duration of their fellowship. It is expected, however, that the recipient will work closely with one of the established experimental research groups at UC Berkeley, taking advantage of existing facilities and resources. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the research group with which they are likely to be associated. While the focus of the Townes Fellowship is primarily instrumental, strong observational components to the proposed research program are encouraged.

Fellowships are awarded for two years beginning in Fall 2009. The annual salary is $59,772 with an additional research fund of $5,000 per year. Applications are due November 14, 2008, and should be sent to Daniele Meilhan, Townes Fellowship Coordinator, University of California, Berkeley - Space Sciences Laboratory, 7 Gauss Way, CA 94720-7450. Applications should include curriculum vitae, a bibliography of publications, selected preprints, and a description of the proposed research including the relevant resources available through the associated research group at UC Berkeley. In addition, the applicants should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the address above. Refer potential reviewers to the UC Berkeley Statement of Confidentiality found at: http://apo.chance.berkeley.edu/evalltr.html

UC Berkeley actively seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Women and underrepresented minority applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. The University of California is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.
