Job Description:

The University of Valparaiso, Chile, offers two postdoctoral positions funded by ALMA/Conicyt. The successful candidates will work with Dr. Matthias R. Schreiber, Dr. Veronica Motta, and Dr. Michel Cure on protoplanetary and debris disks.

Within the next years the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Universidad de Valparaiso will form a new research group in the field of protoplanetary disks. In collaboration with scientists from the Spitzer Science Center and the Johns Hopkins University, we will put emphasis on interesting targets to be observed with ALMA. The successful candidates will participate in modelling protoplanetary disks, performing observations with APEX, and simulating ALMA observations. Candidates with experience in radio astronomy and/or protoplanteray disk research are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates will have access to the Chilean 10% of observing time at international telescopes located in Chile (e.g. APEX, VLT, Gemini-South). The appointments are for two years and should start as soon as possible. Applicants should have a PhD in Astrophysics or a related field, submit by E-mail a statement of research interests, publication list, CV, and arrange for two letters of reference. Full consideration will be given to complete applications received by May 31, 2008.

Informal enquiries and applications should be addressed to Dr. Matthias R. Schreiber (matthias@dfa.uv.cl) or Dr. Veronica Motta (vmotta@dfa.uv.cl).
